Malikova's fingerprint

Sample of Malikova's voice, taken from a conversation between her and Niklas Malikov

❝She doesn't feel a drop of sorry for herself. So you shouldn't, either.

It's not who she is.❞

ㅤㅤㅤMalikova is described as looking younger than she actually is. During the events of BeiTech attack, she had long black hair with sharp bangs; which she cut short now. She has a pair of green 'razorblade' eyes. Malikova bears a strong resemblance to her cousin, Niklas Malikov, especially in the cheekbones and eyes. Malikova has a really fair skin, almost pale. Her figure is extremely thin, as she most likely only weighs about 30-40 kilos. It's a result of the plague she suffered from. She is usually seen wearing an all black attire, complete with black-polished fingernails.

ㅤㅤㅤAfter suffering from the Lysergia plague at the age of 13, Malikova ends up being paralyzed from the waist down, thus rendering her almost completely immobile; having to be restricted to her room as she was required to wear an oxygen mask and a number of wetware electrodes to monitor her vital signs. Most of the time, her legs are covered with a temp-regulated blanket, but anyone can see they're not much more than skin and bones.

ㅤㅤㅤAs time went by, Malikova's health improved, and now she's able to breathe on her own.

❝So tell me who she is.❞

❝A girl raised by criminals and killers. Who has to rely on other people for a bunch of stuff she used to do herself, and who grew some thorns to make sure nobody feels sorry for her about it.❞

PRE-ILLUMINAE FILES

ㅤㅤㅤElla "Pauchok" Malikova is an electronics prodigy from New Petersburg. She was born on December 24, 2560. She's the daughter of Mikhail "Handsome Mike" Malikov; who, along with Malikova, is a member of Dom Najov a.k.a House of Knives; a Russian mafia group led by the Malikov family.

ㅤㅤㅤWhen Malikova was 13 years old, she suffered from Lysergia; a deadly plague that dragged the poor girl as close to death's door as most folks ever get. She survived, but was rendered unable to walk and breathe properly without an oxygen mask. Thus, Malikova was restricted to her supercomputer─that she named Anansi, after the Akan god of spiders and mischief, and she got exceptionally good at it, eventually helping the House of Knives with her skill.

THE ILLUMINAE FILES

ㅤㅤㅤDuring the BeiTech invasion on Heimdall Jump Station, along with Hanna Donnelly and Niklas Malikov, Malikova took an important role in evacuating the remaining civilians on the station. Malikova was also responsible for the death of the BeiTech Industries Beta Squad, which she flushed out of an airlock.

ㅤㅤㅤAfter the invasion, Malikova and the rest of the survivors were evacuated to BeiTech's container ship, the Mao. She had to suffer from a mild hallucination due to her being attacked by the Lanima, a species of parasitic linguastata that feeds on electromagnetic frequencies emanating from brainwave activity. Surprisingly, unlike other BeiTech's soldiers who got attacked by the apex-predator, Malikova was still able to regain control of her consciousness really well; she even gave Hanna Donnelly and Nik Malikov an assistance during the events of the Gemina field.

ㅤㅤㅤDespite having to be restricted to the infirmary bed during the event of Kerenza colonists' rebellion against BeiTech, Malikova still insisted on lending her tech skill as much as possible. She assisted Kady Grant, the systems chief of the Mao the whole time. She was responsible for sending AIDAN to BeiTech's battleship.

ㅤㅤㅤAs of 2577, after Isaac Grant becomes Malikova's legal guardian, she now lives with him and his daughter, Kady Grant.

❝Little Spider. She certainly has the systems proficiency. But she seems ... unpredictable.

And, if I may say, overly fond of profanity.❞

ㅤㅤㅤWhen it comes to describing the Little Spider, sarcastic is the first thing that comes to mind. Her sarcasm game can be so strong that it can actually confuses a certain artificial intelligence so much it shuts down. AIDAN also describes her as a rather unpredictable person, acting however she likes. Malikova has shown to be pretty spontaneous and impulsive. In a way, she bears a resemblance to Kady Grant, as they're both fiercely independent, stubborn, direct, and confrontational.

ㅤㅤㅤMalikova doesn't let her disability hurt her self-confidence. She has high self-esteem in regard to many of her abilities and is more than determined to show that she would not let her condition deter her from living freely and fighting like everyone else. However, sometimes this acted as a ruse to hide personal insecurities. This determination at times can lead her to mistook a friendly gesture as an act of pity for her condition. Due to this, she develops a rough, confident exterior as some sort of defense mechanism; "to make sure nobody feels sorry for her."

ㅤㅤㅤMalikova is comfortable enough, however, with her friend's absent-mindedness on the subject of her disability to even joke about it herself at times. An example of this would be in an exchange between her and Niklas Malikov via text where Malikov mocks Malikova for being a "stand-up comedy genius", to which she replies, "if only I could stand. :P".

ㅤㅤㅤMalikova is a realist; she uses facts and past events, rather than hopeful feelings and wishes, to predict the future. She's also cynical; both these traits can make her comes across as a pessimistic person. But Malikova is also a jokester. She loves messing with people, especially her friends. She tends to use her tech skill to trick anyone unfortunate enough to be in her proximity.

ㅤㅤㅤDon't be offended when she says something rude or uses profanity so freely; she grew up in a den of criminals, thugs, and murderers, so rude is where she lives.

ㅤㅤㅤShe appears to be a quick-learner, and is very loyal to her group; namely, the House of Knives, her family, and her newly-found Illuminae Group. Her loyalty would be proven by how protective she acts toward them, even willingly sacrificing herself as long as they could see the light of day.

ㅤㅤㅤMalikova is fully aware of how good she is with technology and is really proud of it.

❝Ella Malikova.❞
Pauchok.
The Little Spider.
The beginning and the end of the Magellan's doom.
She takes control.❞

ㅤㅤㅤMalikova is an electronics prodigy. She's highly intelligent, and has shown a big interest in technology at very young age. Her hacking skill has proven countless times to be uncanny; she was even able to remotely override controls of a spaceship. Another proof of her tech skill is how Niklas Malikov describes that Malikova has zero tattoo in her body, despite being a member of the criminal family House of Knives. The members of the mafia get one tattoo each time they get caught during their crime that's done for the group. Malikova has never been caught. It's highly likely this is because during her career, nobody even knew her existence as Malikova was unable to get out of her room; because she had to breathe with the help of oxygen mask.

THE HOUSE OF KNIVES
(Дом Ножов)

❝─Straight talk, then. What do you know about the House of Knives?❞

❝That you're not people to mess with. That you can get hold of things and get rid of people, and the authorities either don't want to arrest you or can't.❞

ㅤㅤㅤHouse of Knives is a Russian crime family led by the Malikovs. The HoK has two branches, with the main branch based in New Petersburg, while a second branch is based on the Jump Station Heimdall. The New Petersburg branch was led by Zakary Malikov; before he was arrested for murder.

ㅤㅤㅤThe House of Knives primarily deals with drug trafficking; mostly tetraphenetrithylamine, or dust, but other protection rackets are also used. Crimes committed by members and associates of the family include assault, murder, and robbery.

ㅤㅤㅤSome of the known members and associates are Zakary Malikov, Mikhail Malikov, Niklas Malikov, Ella Malikova, Erik Malikov, Soraya Een Hajji, Ivan Federov, and Giovanni Genovesi.

ㅤㅤㅤThe mafia uses tattoos as a sort of rank-representation method, with different tattoos representing different deeds completed for the group. The members get one each time they get caught during their crime; for example, a chain at the waist represents one term in prison served for a crime committed for the HoK, or flowers on the top of the hands represent conviction for drug trafficking.

ㅤㅤㅤ(!!!) One known case involving the Malikovs and House of Knives is the Balashov Incident; see page A0.72-90 for reference.

THE ILLUMINAE GROUP

❝─Think about everything we have been through. Leave aside the planetary invasions and killsquads, the mind-eating alien parasites, and mass-murdering artifial intelligences for a minute.

We'd just saved two goddamn universes from total annihilation after an interdimensional paradox event threatened to swallow them whole.

You really think "impossible" was going to be a problem for us after all that?❞

ㅤㅤㅤThe Illuminae Group is a group of survivors of the Kerenza attack and BeiTech invasion on Heimdall. It was created in 2575. The group consists of:

Artificial Intelligence Defense Analytics Network (AIDAN)DONNELLY, Hanna Alimah; TacticianGRANT, AshaGRANT, Kady Eleanora; Systems ChiefLINDSTROM, RhysMALIKOV, Niklas Abram; GunnerMALIKOVA, EllaMASON, Ezra; Air Wing Leader
ㅤㅤㅤThese group of people collaborated together with other survivors of the war to assemble a dossier named The Illuminae Files to expose what BeiTech Industries have done to the universe.

ㅤㅤㅤThey began collecting emails, medical records, video transcripts, and other files related to the events in 2575. After the last war against Kerenza survivors and BeiTech, the group evacuated everyone left, assembling on the mobile jump platform Magellan under Captain Winifred McCall. The people then started looking for a safe place for the survivors to lie low and for the Illuminae Group to finish pulling the files together. They held meetings and showed everyone the beginning of the Illuminae Files; explaining what they could pull together if they had time. Everyone participated.

ㅤㅤㅤThey then moved to Ptolemy, one of the systems that used to be served by the Kerenza wormhole. It's a pastoralist colony. Ptolemy was cut off from the Core System when Heimdall was destroyed, and the colonists were resigning themselves to living in isolation for years until the Wallace Ulyanov Consortium rebuilt it. They then struck a deal. The colony sheltered everyone while the group assembled the files. When the people of Magellan were done, they brought a few of the people of Ptolemy with them to remind the universe they were still there, too.

ㅤㅤㅤAt the same time, BeiTech wanted to clean their name by deleting every evidence of their whole fiasco. Using Malikova's and her cousin's connections to the House of Knives, the mafia helped the Illuminae Group building their reputation, putting word out into the shady places it needed to go; putting the group on BeiTech's radar. Eventually, the Illuminae Group was hired as a cleanup crew for BeiTech; only to turn around and hand the dossier they had gathered from BeiTech to the United Terran Authority as court documents.

ㅤㅤㅤThe United Terran Authority then received the Illuminae Files in January 2576, and the tribunal trial against BeiTech began in June 2577. The trial ended in December 2577 with the jury reached a verdict of guilty. BeiTech's director of acquisition, Leanne Frobisher, was then convicted.

ㅤㅤㅤAs of now, The Illuminae Group is a private company, specializing in gathering and compiling intels and informations; offering their main service of being the 'clean-up crew' to delete any undisclosed dossier from existence, and to act as an intel to "shed light into undisclosed matters for the universe to know".

- BEITECH INVASION ON JUMP STATION HEIMDALL

ㅤㅤㅤOn August 15, 2575, under BeiTech's Director of Acquisitions Leanne Frobisher, a number of BeiTech team invaded Jump Station Heimdall. The list of casualty can be seen here; it includes the Heimdall Station Captain Charles Donnelly—also the father of Hanna Donnelly, and Ella Malikova's father, Mikhail Malikov.

This is a transcript from a personal message between Leanne Frobisher and Operative Rapier; of which the invasion to Heimdall is first mentioned.

PERSONAL MESSAGE: ONBOARD IM SYSTEM
FROM: Director Frobisher, BEITECH HEADQUARTERS, JIA III
TO: RAPIER OPERATIVE
INCEPT: 08/11/75

RAPIER: See? The Alexander's AI was wrecked. Lincoln SHOULD have been able to take it out.FROBISHER, L, DIR: I know, Sam. I've read all that.RAPIER: Well then you know I was officially on record telling Taylor was a ▇▇ plan.FROBISHER, L, DIR: And yet you complied with his directives.RAPIER: What the hell was I supposed to do? Taylor was my CO, I did what he ▇▇ing told me.FROBISHER, L, DIR: Calm down, Sam. I admire a man who's loyal. It should serve you very well in days ahead.RAPIER: So ... I guess this means you're pulling me out, right?FROBISHER, L, DIR: Why on Earth would we do that?RAPIER: Because the plan is ▇▇ed? Hypatia arrives at the Heimdall waypoint in five days. You have Taylor for a scapegoat. Just say he went rogue and throw him to the ▇▇ing wolves!FROBISHER, L, DIR: If word of this debacle gets out, BeiTech Industries would have to admit we're developing psychoactive bioweapons in violation of the Araki Accord. We'd also have to admit we're developing mobile jump gate technology. And that we lost our only working prototype. BeiTech crews decimated a civilian settlement (albeit an illegal one). A mining colony full of families and children, for God's sake. If those idiots hadn't fired on a UTA vessel we might have salvaged something from this mess. As it is, this stands to be an unprecedented PR disaster.RAPIER: This is insane. We need to get out of this NOW before it gets any deeper.FROBISHER, L, DIR: Now you listen to me. We are ALL in this up to our necks. You think I'm happy about cleaning up Taylor's vomit? Think again. But we are both employees of BeiTech Industries, and if word of this breaks, it will end this company. So stop whining like a goddamn child and get back on the clock.RAPIER: ... Yes, ma'am.FROBISHER, L, DIR: Now. You've been erasing all communications from the Kerenza Sector, correct? So NO word of the colony attack or incidents aboard Alexander or Hypatia has gotten through?RAPIER: Affirmative. And I've heard nothing from the Kerenza attack fleet since mid-February.FROBISHER, L, DIR: Aren't some people aboard Heimdall in the know about the mine? Aren't they wondering why it went silent?RAPIER: I lied with the truth. Told them the UTA is testing a warship out by the Kerenza asteroid ring, so the colony has "gone dark to avoid detection."FROBISHER, L, DIR: They believe the UTA has been testing out there for over 6 months?RAPIER: Story's wearing thin, sure. But I fake a short "A-OK" message from the colony every week to let Heimdall know everything's chill. And honestly, how the hell do these WUC boys know what the United Terran Authority gets up to? They're so scared about their little hermium outfit being discovered, they're just clenching both cheeks and praying at this point.FROBISHER, L, DIR: And what about the UTA? Why didn't they drop into the Kerenza system like an anvil when Alexander stopped transmitting?RAPIER: Alexander was packing up stumps for the Gaius Sector to stress-test their rad shielding when the Kerenza SOS arrived. And they were nice enough to send their daily ident codes in every emergency transmission I intercepted since the attack. So I just transmitted to the UTA it was situation normal. When they "arrived" at Gaius, I doctored a story about a fault in their jump gate generator. Used all their lingo. Then they went dark.FROBISHER, L, DIR: So the UTA is looking for the Alexander in the Gaius system?RAPIER: Presumably.FROBISHER, L, DIR: Sooner or later, they're going to come sniffing around Kerenza.RAPIER: I told you this was a ▇▇ plan.FROBISHER, L, DIR: Those days are over. A team of auditors is inbound to Heimdall as we speak. We need to get ships into the Kerenza system to destroy the Hypatia before she arrives at Heimdall. And we can't risk an open assault on the station. Too noisy. Terra Day is coming up. Most of Heimdall's crew are on shore leave, yes?RAPIER: Affirmative. We'll be on skeleton crew for 2 weeks. And they're taking the opportunity to perform maintenance on the wormhole. So there's no civi traffic in or out.FROBISHER, L, DIR: So. We do this quickly. Quietly. Take the station. Get our fleet in and take our witnesses out. Then we leave without a trace.RAPIER: Look, Director, the maintenance that Engineering is running on the wormhole is serious business. We're essentially sitting on a rip in the fabric of spacetime here. If things go south, they go south ALL the way. So I'm not sure it's a good idea to start shooting the place up?FROBISHER, L, DIR: The auditors I'm sending are top notch. They'll not be shooting up anything they don't have to. They'll have specialists with them to manage the wormhole. And we'll still have the Heimdall engineering staff on hand to assist.RAPIER: So what the hell am I supposed to do in all this?FROBISHER, L, DIR: That's an excellent question, Sam. With a very simple answer. You're going to get our team on board.
- THE LANIMA

ㅤㅤㅤOn August 06, 2575, a number of the House of Knives' members implanted a huge amount of Lanima larvae into the cows kept in Heimdall's storage room situated above the hermium reactor. This was done in order to 'harvest' the toxin released by the Lanima; which, when dried and processed, produce a powdered substance known as tetraphenetrithylamine (colloquially referred to as dust). Addictive, peerlessly potent, and relatively side-effect-free, dust is a highly desired narcotic in both Core and fringe systems.

ㅤㅤㅤThe Lanima—colloquially called "Lickers"—are apex-level predators, known for their hostile temperaments and aggressive territoriality. They're characterized by a serpentine body, two long forelimbs, and four sucking mouths, similar to Terran Lamprey eels. Lanima feed on electromagnetic frequencies emanating from brainwave activity, typically by attaching one or more mouths to the cranial region of their victims and inserting the tongue through available orifices (ears, eyes, mouth, etc.).

ㅤㅤㅤLanima secrete a psychoactive venom, which they use to immobilize prey. They will feed on brainwave activity until their victims are reduced to a permanent vegetative state, but the act of feeding itself oten fails to kill the victim. Neo-Davidian colonists of Pangaea III who first discovered the species referred to victims as being rendered "soulless", hence the overly poetic name. (Lambere means "to lick", and anima means "soul"; both in Latin).

ㅤㅤㅤSpecimens have reached recorded lengths of three meters, with individual mouth circumferences of over 30 cm. The creatures are apparently sightless, sensing vibration by "licking" the air around them. They become extremely agitated in the presence of noise exceeding 100dB—xenobiologists postulate it may interfere with their aural network, the way rapidly strobing light might agitate a human.

ㅤㅤㅤDuring BeiTech's invasion of Jump Station Heimdall, the larvae the House of Knives implanted escaped and attacked nearly everyone aboard the station; most of them were rendered in a permanent vegetative state. Recorded victims of the Lanima include Ella Malikova and a number of BeiTech operatives.

- THE GEMINA FIELD

ㅤㅤㅤDuring BeiTech's invasion, the science vessel Hypatia that carried the survivors of the Kerenza attack (See ILLUMINAE: THE ILLUMINAE FILES_01) was also on its way to Heimdall. On their way there, the Hypatia received transmissions from Jump Station Heimdall from two contacts, on two different devices, with enough subtle distinctions as to plausibly be different people. Each of them had proved they had ongoing contact with Heimdall's chief of engineering, Isaac Grant; and each claimed they saw the other die.

ㅤㅤㅤNot only that, but at the same time, a BeiTech fleet was supposed to enter the wormhole at the core of Heimdall to jump light years away to Hypatia and eliminate everyone aboard the vessel. However, the wormhole was under maintenance. This led to an anomaly in the space and time rift; resulting in the BeiTech fleet never showed up at the other end of the wormhole, and two different universes that coexisted simultaneously interacted with each other. Thus, this interaction produced an exotic matter that was only existed in theory; the Gemina particle.

ㅤㅤㅤThat very day, the people aboard Heimdall and Hypatia were the witness of the multiverse theory being proven to be true.

ㅤㅤㅤRealizing this, with the help of AIDAN, Niklas Malikov and Hanna Donnelly from two different universes had to work together to fix the spacetime rift; or else, the anomaly would create more and more paradoxes, eventually destroying both universes and everyone within.

- THE SURVIVORS OF KERENZA

ㅤㅤㅤAfter the events in THE ILLUMINAE FILES_02, the Jump Station Heimdall was destroyed; but the remaining population of the station was evacuated to the ship belonging to BeiTech's Travis Falk, the Mao. Only by that time did everybody find out that there were still survivors left on Kerenza IV; a BeiTech force who had been stranded planetside for almost seven months, along with a bunch of colonists who never made it out on the Alexander fleet.

BRIEFING NOTE: Attached below is a transmission from BeiTech sent from Kerenza, mentioning their plan to take every witness of their crime out.

—PRIORITY ONE TRANSMISSION: AUTHORIZED BY SŪN 7802-024-BTN—
Location: 101:421:082 (Kerenza system)
To: BEITECH HEADQUARTERS, JIA III, 587:331:908 N 71º 22'01, W 38º50'31''
Incept: 08/16/75

ㅤㅤㅤDirector Taylor,

ㅤㅤㅤGiven the nearly seven months of silence since my last report, I imagine I am the last man in the universe you expected a transmission from. However, my TechEng crews assure me our communication capabilities are now restored and that—should he still be in place—Operative Rapier on Heimdall Station will be able to pass this transmission on to headquarters.

ㅤㅤㅤTo be brief: Mobile Jump Platform Magellan was badly damaged by UTA battlecarrier Alexander in the attack on Kerenza IV. On February 1, barely three sols after our arrival in orbit, a hermium containment breach aboard Magellan resulted in a localized warp storm that encircled Kerenza IV's gravity well. The Magellan was saved, but damage to the propulsion systems of my remaining ships meant we were unable to travel past the storm's periphery, effectively cutting off all intersystem communication from Kerenza IV until the particulate hermium was dispersed by solar winds. If you are receiving this transmission, the storm has abated enough to allow us to restore comms.

ㅤㅤㅤOur situation:

The WUC holdings on Kerenza IV, including a fully functional hermium mine, are still under BeiTech under control.Kerenza civilians required to produce reactor-grade hermium or maintain colony functions are pacified.Current colony population: approximately 3,200.Repairs to Mobile Jump Platform Magellan are 94 percent complete. My TechEng staff assures me Magellan will be fully operational in eleven standard days.A hermium reserve of at least 40 percent is required for Magellan to succesfully execute a fleetwide jump to the Jia system. With current output of the Kerenza mine, this capacity will be reached in fourteen days.We have received no transmissions from Captain Larbalestier or dreadnought Lincoln and are unaware of the status of their pursuit of UTA battlecarrier Alexander. We have received no transmissions from Jump Station Heimdall or Operative Rapier advising us of changes to operation status.
ㅤㅤㅤAfter consultation with command staff, and given that we have seen no retaliation from the UTA for our attack on battlecarrier Alexander, we are proceeding under the assumption that Lincoln was succesful in her mission to destroy Alexander, that Operative Rapier is still in place aboard Heimdall deleting distress calls sent from the system and that the covert status of this operation is still somehow intact. Therefore, I am redefining our mission objectives as follows:

Restore Magellan to full operational status.Restore Magellan's hermium reserves to capacity required for a jump to the Jia system.Jump Magellan back to BeiTech headquarters on Jia III, with dreadnought Churchill in tow. (Dreadnought Kenyatta was badly damaged in the initial assault and is currently caught in a decaying orbit around Kerenza. The ship has been abandoned and will be scuttled before we depart.)
ㅤㅤㅤNote: The Kerenza IV hermium mine and colony infrastructure will be kept intact when we jump, but unless otherwise advised, we will liquidate the remaining Kerenza populace upon departure, in order to preserve operational secrecy.

ㅤㅤㅤWe will maintain zero-transmission protocol unless status changes. Should you wish to countermand our priorities, I can be reached via standard encrypted channels.

In Aeternemun Invicti.

Sūn Huojin
Admiral, BeiTech Industries Orbital Corps
Commander, BT013-TN Churchill, Assault Fleet Kerenza

P.S: If you would be so kind, I would request a member of the BeiTech Communications Ministry contact my wife and son and assure them I am well.

BRIEFING NOTE: After the transmission, BeiTech fleets were sent to the Kerenza system; thus, with the help of the refugees in the Mao, the remaining survivors had to engage in the last war with BeiTech.
